JULY 2026

As our nation approaches the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, we pause to give thanks to God for His providential care throughout our country’s history. For two and a half centuries, Americans have enjoyed remarkable blessings of liberty, opportunity, and self-government. While our national story contains both inspiring achievements and sobering failures, we recognize that every good gift ultimately comes from the hand of our gracious God.

This anniversary provides an opportunity not merely for grateful reflection but for spiritual examination. Jesus reminds His followers, “You are the salt of the earth” and “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13-16). The hope of our nation has never rested primarily in its institutions, political leaders, or economic strength. Rather, the greatest contribution Christians make to this and any society is faithful discipleship to Jesus Christ.

Salt preserves what is good and resists corruption. As followers of Christ, we are called to uphold truth, pursue justice, defend the vulnerable, and demonstrate integrity in every sphere of life. Light dispels darkness. Through acts of compassion, mercy, and faithful witness, the church points beyond itself to the Savior who alone can transform human hearts.

As we commemorate 250 years of American history, let us avoid both cynicism and triumphalism. We need not despair over our nation’s challenges, nor place ultimate hope in earthly kingdoms. Our citizenship is first in heaven, yet God has placed us here to seek the welfare of our communities and to serve as ambassadors of Christ.

May this anniversary renew our commitment to prayer for our nation, love for our neighbors, and faithful proclamation of the gospel. Let us shine brightly in our generation so that others may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven.
