New Season; New Growth

There is something about August that feels like a fresh beginning. School buses return to the roads, classrooms fill with eager students, college campuses come alive, and families settle into new routines. Even those without school-aged children often sense that a new season has begun.

The Bible reminds us that, while formal education has its place, none of us ever graduates from the school of following Jesus Christ.

Proverbs tells us that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs 1:7). Our greatest pursuit is not simply acquiring information but growing in wisdom—the kind of wisdom that teaches us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Luke tells us that even Jesus, in His humanity, "grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man" (Luke 2:52).

Since our Lord embraced growth, let us also.

Many of us have spent years preparing for careers, learning trades, earning degrees, or mastering skills. Those are worthy endeavors. Yet the Lord calls us to something even greater: a lifelong apprenticeship to Christ. The Apostle Paul writes, "Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, rooted and built up in him" (Colossians 2:6–7). The Christian life is not merely about beginning well but continuing to grow, becoming more deeply rooted in God's grace and increasingly shaped by His Word.

As this new season begins, I encourage each of us to ask: What am I learning from Jesus today? What is God teaching me through this season or experience? Is my love for Him growing? Am I becoming more patient, more humble, more prayerful, more eager to serve—more like Jesus?

May August be a month of renewed commitment, not only to education, work, and responsibility, but also to knowing Christ more deeply. For in His school, we never graduate, and by His grace, we never stop growing.
