Familiar Rhythms, Faithful Practices

September brings the familiar rhythm of a new school year. Even our classrooms here on Providence campus fill with eager students from Haywood Haven (a Christian based homeschool co-op). Teachers prepare lessons; parents adjust schedules; two of our own college age students begin a new season of learning and growth. As these transitions unfold, they remind us that every new beginning is an opportunity to seek the Lord’s blessing.

The Apostle Paul writes, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people” (1 Timothy 2:1). Among those “all people” are the students, teachers, administrators, bus drivers, coaches, cafeteria workers, and parents who shape the lives of our children every day. They face challenges that require not only wisdom and perseverance but also the grace of God.

As followers of Christ, we have the privilege of supporting them in one of the most powerful ways possible: prayer. Let us ask the Lord to protect our children physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Pray that they would grow in knowledge while also growing in wisdom and character. Pray that Christian students would shine as lights in their schools, demonstrating kindness, integrity, and courage. Lift up teachers and school staff, asking God to grant them patience, discernment, and renewed strength for the work entrusted to them.

Our prayers should also extend beyond the classroom. Let us pray that our community would be marked by compassion, respect, and a shared concern for the flourishing of every family. The church has a unique calling to be a faithful presence in the community, bearing witness to the hope of Jesus Christ through both our words and our actions. Pray also for our Junaluska Bible Club Team (six of us in total from Providence led by Renee Allsbrook) and the 40 or so children who attend the after school program every Tuesday—starting up again this month. We have the joy of sharing the gospel each week and witness the fruit of evangelism.

May this September find us not merely busy with new routines but faithful in prayer. As we entrust our schools and our neighbors to the Lord, may we remember that Christ is building His kingdom in every generation. He is the true Teacher, the Good Shepherd of our children, and the unfailing source of wisdom for all who seek Him.
